Verlasso has been a leader for nearly a decade in sustainable aquaculture, and now the brand’s much larger parent company is following suit. We’re proud to announce that our parent company, AquaChile, has signed an agreement with NGO World Wildlife Foundation (WWF) to achieve a 100% Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) certification for all of its  operations!

You might be wondering – what is the Aquaculture Stewardship Council, why is WWF involved, and what does this all mean?

First off, ASC is a nonprofit certification program for responsibly farmed seafood. Thousands of NGOs, scientists, and industry experts have developed the high ASC farm standards to ensure that a certified farm’s surrounding environment is protected and that the operations have a positive social impact on their communities. Check out their video to learn more about their mission and impact!

Our friends at WWF, who have been hard at work since 1961 to preserve wilderness, protect wildlife, and reduce human impact on the environment, recognize ASC as the most credible, robust certification for farmed seafood. By teaming up with ASC, WWF supports farms in improving their performance and achieving the ASC standards.

So what does this all mean for AquaChile? Our parent company has pledged to the following actions!

  • Ratifying its commitment to protect lakes for research and monitor their environmental state.

  • Acting as a good neighbor and conscientious citizen that interacts proactively with communities and respects indigenous communities. Learn more about this here!

  • Improving waste management by marking 100% of floating structures with the company logo to help with the identification of waste, which makes it easier for NGOs and other organizations to track this process.

  • Continuing with its permanent program of voluntary beach cleaning.

  • Supporting the development of projects related to local biodiversity monitoring promoted by WWF Chile, as well as the work developed by WWF Chile to identify areas of high conservation value in Patagonia.

We couldn’t be more excited about this path to greater sustainability in the beautiful Chilean Patagonia, where we farm our delicious salmon.
