An Eric Wolfinger Production - Journey of a Waterman

An Eric Wolfinger Production - Journey of a Waterman

Unlike any other documentary short film about aquaculture, this one takes you on a journey through the eyes of an environmentally conscious 10-time Paddleboard World Champion and Professional Big Wave Surfer, Jamie Mitchell. By capturing this unique relationship on camera, we can bring this real journey to Verlasso’s communities. A convincing story that gives sense of place, sense of time, and sense of care at every level. A true sense of well-being, convincingly portrayed through the eyes of the surfer.

When the ocean is your home, office and a place you eagerly await to visit to restore your peace and tranquility – you tend to care for it just a bit more than others do. 2018 was set from the very beginning to be a journey of deepening our love and understanding for the ocean and how every decision we make as an industry affects ecosystems, livelihoods and precious resources. As an aquaculture company, it is important to reach outside the boundaries of the farm and to illuminate the environmental and ocean issues in a real-life setting.

Feast of the Seven Salmon

Feast of the Seven Salmon

The Feast of the Seven Fishes dinner on Christmas Eve has been an Italian tradition for hundreds of years. It is traditionally a lengthy dinner with at least seven fish courses, sometimes as many as twelve depending upon the family. The fish that are included and how they are prepared depend upon the long standing traditions of the family. At Verlasso, our celebration is easy to agree on, so we decided to put our spin on this tradition and have a "Feast of the Seven Salmons"!

Dinner time should be a time to disconnect from the outside world. A safe haven to talk about the happenings in your life and the lives of those seated with you. A designated time to decompress, connect with loved ones and remove yourself from everyday stressors.

Sustainability isn't a Trend. It's a Lifeline

Sustainability isn't a Trend. It's a Lifeline

As we pause to think more deeply about fish and seafood, we must understand what realities we face and how simple our day to day choices can affect it. Sea life at all levels of the food chain are at risk. Worldwide demand for fish is increasing every year, with some of the most populous nations on the planet leading the fish-catching and consumption trends: China, Japan, and the United States. Our appetite for fish and seafood has left 90% of wild species depleted or exploited. Yet for all of this worry, there is good news. We simply need to be smarter about the way we use this resource. The oceans have an incredible way of rebounding when balanced fishery and aquaculture management is put into place.

These include the Chicago Food Bank, Cleveland Food Bank, Brown County Food and Hunger Network and many more! We are excited to support teams and chefs in this effort to fight hunger in their communities!

Brazil Road Trip

Brazil Road Trip

September couldn’t have started in a better way for Verlasso. For the first time in Verlasso’s short history, we were able to dip our fins in a market outside of the United States. Precisely in one of the largest markets for Atlantic Salmon: Brazil!
